The Greensburg Salem Golden Lions Marching Band, which was formed in 1925, marches through downtown Greensburg prior to every home game at Offutt Field. Greensburg Salem is one of the few high schools in the country that maintains this tradition. The band performs its halftime show at every football game and takes part in several other school and community events. They can be seen at the annual Halloween parade at Lynch Field, Veteran’s Day Celebrations at the elementary schools, and marching in the Greensburg Holiday Parade. The Golden Lions also perform at several band festivals throughout the region and march in parades at Kennywood and Ligonier. Each spring, they travel outside PA and perform for a wider audience. Recently, they have marched in the Norfolk International Music Festival’s Parade of Nations as well as a Main Street USA parade at Walt Disney World. This spring, they will perform at the Statue of Liberty in New York City.

The GSHS Concert Band performs in December and May. Concert Band can be taken during the school day in grades 9-12 for credit in the spring semester. At GSMS, band meets as a class throughout the school year. Students in grades 7-12 can also be a part of the Jazz Ensemble, which meets after school from January through May. The Jazz Ensemble performs at the GSMS spring concert and the GSHS Coffee House, as well as local jazz festivals and at other outside venues.
